I’m hoping you’re already familiar with Seth Godin; in my opinion, one of the most brilliant communicators on the Web.
I’m reading through his latest ebook, and let me just say — I’m not even finished with the thing yet, and here I am recommending it to you.
It’s that good.
“Everything I know about business, I learned from poker…”
What Matters Now amounts to a rich collection of bite-sized ‘thought grenades’ from a body of well-respected people, each of whom have contributed a paragraph, a page, a picture, a diagram, or some other element, to complete the book.
In Seth’s own words:
“Here are more than seventy big thinkers, each sharing an idea for you to think about as we head into the new year…
Here’s the deal: it’s free.”
My favorite excerpt so far? Zappos CEO, Tony Hsieh who, after opening with, “Business is a game. Everything I know about business, I learned from poker…,” writes:
- The guy who wins the most hands is not the guy who makes the most money in the long run.
- The guy who never loses a hand is not the guy who makes the most money in the long run.
- Go for positive expected value, not what’s least risky.
- You will win or lose individual hands, but it’s what happens in the long term that matters.
Hope you like it, too. You can get it here: What Matters Now.

Very cool.
I’ve now completed 23 revolutions around the sun and a little Seth Godin seems like a good way to kick things off.
Thanks.
Great to see you here, Steve — enjoy the book.
(…and thanks again for your feedback during the hiatus.)
