Executive Presence (Part 2): Be Well-Read

In Part 1 of this series, we talked about the two factors your self-confidence and Executive Presence depend upon:

  • Physical Impact (PI)
  • Intellectual Impact (II)

To understand Physical Impact, it would be best to start with Part 1.

II
Intellectual Impact becomes an important factor once you find yourself engaged in conversation with an individual or a group of people you’ve just met. It has to do with the effect your words and behavior have upon others during your communication with them.

You’re a businessperson, so the idea is to cultivate an unmistakable aura of respect and trustworthiness that people can feel, [Read more...]

Order Your Drink Like a Man

You can tell a lot about a man by the way he orders his drink. What you order is not as important as how you order it.

As I’ve mentioned before, I know my way around a bar pretty well — but you certainly don’t need to be a veteran drink-slinger to get this right. [Read more...]

What Matters Now

I’m hoping you’re already familiar with Seth Godin; in my opinion, one of the most brilliant communicators on the Web.

I’m reading through his latest ebook, and let me just say — I’m not even finished with the thing yet, and here I am recommending it to you.

It’s that good.

Everything I know about business, I learned from poker.

What Matters Now amounts to a rich collection of bite-sized ‘thought grenades’ from a body of well-respected people, each of whom [Read more...]

The ‘C’ Word: How Much is Fear of ‘Commitment’ Costing You?

“How many diets does it take for you to lose weight?”

That’s the question the guest speaker started off with at a luncheon I attended a couple of weeks ago. He continued, “How many motivational speeches, books or CD’s does it take to get results? How many businesses does it really take to get you to the level of financial success you desire?”

Of course, the answer is: [Read more...]

Really Cool Watches (You Don’t Have to Mortgage Your House For)

I admit it — I’ve got a serious watch problem. As soon as I buy the coolest watch I’ve ever seen, I see another one. Fortunately for you, this makes me a great guy to ask about the hottest watches for men out there (thanks for your question, Trent).

Mind you, I’m not into spending $6,000 on a timepiece — it’s really not necessary anymore. Current manufacturers are producing really great watches for far less money than ever before. (Which makes it much easier to become a watch junkie like me.)

Anyway, if you’re in the market for something really cool to put on your wrist, well… I’ll let these killer time machines speak for themselves [Read more...]
